Another interesting idea, presented in Milan, belonged to Donatella Versace. She suggested using tape for athletes as a new fashionable item. The colored scotch tape could be seen on the models’ body at the Spring 2014 Menswear show by Versace.

Gadget to Detect Bacteria & Infection

Canadian researchers from the University of Toronto have developed an electronic chip that enables quick analysis of blood and other biological samples for detecting bacteria & infection.

Today, the analysis of specific pathogens sometimes takes several days, and the selection of an appropriate antibiotic for treatment only makes the process longer. The new technique can reduce it to a few minutes. The chip analyzes numerous bacteria and markers of drug resistance and allows you to find the right medication quickly.

According to author of the study Dr. Shana Kelley, taking large amounts of antibiotics leads to the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria. And the reason for the use of improper medication is the lack of special technology which would prompt the doctor the cause of the infection. According to the experts, their finding will make it possible to save many patients annually through proper medicines and accurate diagnosis.

Sun Creams Reduce Pimples

The 26-year-old girl, working as a columnist in the field of cosmetology, has tried every possible means to remove acne. The result was observed when she used the least promising remedy – sunscreen creams.

Nicole Visscher from New York tells how she suffered from painful pimples and blackheads on the face. Not having a lot of spare cash, she decided to try various cheap products for the treatment of acne. At first, nothing helped her, until she conducted her own investigation and found out that many of the expensive products contained zinc oxide.

The same ingredient is contained in sunscreen lotions and creams for diapers. Then Nicole bought an SPF 45 sunscreen containing 6.8% zinc oxide. The girl used this cream not only during the day, but also at night during sleep. After 24 hours, she noticed positive changes – her skin started to look better.

According to Nicole, the results confirmed her hypothesis that sunscreens could be used to treat acne. She admits that at first it seemed illogical to apply this cream to the skin before going to bed. But it only took one night to see the difference on the face – her skin began to heal.

Two days later, the pimples on Nicole’s face became more even, they reduced in size, and a month later the skin looked almost perfect. Nicole warns those who have decided to follow her method that the consistency of zinc oxide and its frequent use can make the skin too white. To avoid this effect, the girl advised to apply the cream sparingly and rub it carefully into the skin.

How to Get Rid of Unwanted Facial Hair

If the fuzz on the upper lip bothers you, you can select one of these types of hair removal. We’ll tell you more about each of them.

Electroepilation

A thin needle electrode is inserted into the hair follicle. At the end of it there is an electrical impulse, due to which there emerges a spark of heat. This spark destroys the follicle, the part that is responsible for hair growth. The disadvantage of the method is painfulness.
Photoepilation

It is based on the destruction of hair follicles by brief flashes of powerful broadband light. After the procedure, the amount of hair is reduced, and those hairs that remain become even thinner or completely invisible. The method is effective for vellus hair, so it can be used for upper lip hair removal. If after different methods of hair removal there is still hard and dark hair on your upper lip, the most effective and least painful method is laser hair removal.
Laser Hair Removal

This is a non-invasive method of hair removal, the fastest and most effective way to remove hair forever. The frequency of the treatment may vary from three to eight times, depending on the personal skin and hair characteristics, the hormonal level, and the areas of unwanted hair. First you are to be tested – after this the skin becomes reddish, which indicates that the hair follicle has absorbed energy, and hair removal will be effective. Redness can last for a few minutes or days, but this is a temporary phenomenon.

In the process of laser hair removal the melanin in the hair is affected (the pigment, which is mostly contained in dark hair, so laser hair removal on blonde hair is ineffective). Hair structure damage does not affect the surrounding tissues. With each subsequent procedure, hair grows less and less.

To reduce pain during the procedure, it is best to choose a laser with a mounted cooling system. Temperature raising in the follicles is hardly noticeable, as it occurs simultaneously with skin cooling. Thus, the only discomfort accompanying the procedure is tingling or prickling.

The method of hair removal for each person must be individualized at an internal consultation with a specialist, because there are some diseases in which one or the other method of hair removal is not very effective.

Hair Loss (Alopecia)

Alopecia is natural or abnormal baldness or thinning or the hair. It can appear in patches or over the entire head. Hair loss can result from the aging process, surgery, radiation, severe illness, drugs, endocrine disorders such as hypothyroidism, sudden loss of weight, vitamin or mineral deficiency (especially iron), over-consumption of supplements such as vitamin A and niacin, poor diet, stress, certain forms of dermatitis, pregnancy, and hereditary factors. There are over a dozen types suddenly lose large amounts of hair, it may be appropriate to consult you physician to rule out any underlying medical problem that may be causing this loss. Be aware, though, that it is normal to loss about forty to eighty hairs per day.

General Recommendations

Some people lose hair after an illness because of an accumulation of oils, dead cells, and medication residues at the hair follicle. These residues can “choke” the hair, causing it to fall out. Ask your beautician or beauty supply store about products that remove such residues from hair and scalp. A rinse of sage tea or apple cider vinegar can help hair grow, as can a scalp massage with ginger root juice tonic or with that carries cayenne pepper. Lying on a slant board for fifteen to twenty minutes per day will cause blood to flow to the scalp, and daily scalp massage will also help improve circulation. To encourage hair growth, make an infusion with the herbs and use them as a rinse. Use only natural hair products; avoid using harsh chemical products on your hair.

Stimulating hair growth from within by the foods you eat is even more important than what you put on your scalp and hair. Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other nutrients provide the raw materials from which hair is produced. Our diet is too rich in foods that actually starve the hair, such as fat, sugar, and refined foods. You may need to make certain dietary modifications to encourage your hair to grow.

Dietary Modifications

Follow the basic diet.

Include plenty of foods rich in the sulfur-containing amino acids L-cysteine and L-methionine, which are found in animal products (eggs are an especially rich source), legumes, and cabbage.

Skin, hair, and nails contain some of the body’s most rigid proteins, all of which have high sulfur content. Eat animal proteins in moderations, however. An ample serving of lean meat, poultry, or fish is three to five ounces, depending upon your body size. Eastern medicine says that eating too much meat can cause hair loss. This just might be true!

Cut down on sweets. Eastern medicine also says that too much sugar – especially fruit sugar (fructose) - can cause balding on the sides of the forehead. It has been found that sugar is often a contributing factor in hair loss, and that after sugar is removed from the diets of certain individuals, the hair-loss process is either halted or totally or partially reversed.

Include foods rich in the B vitamins, with special emphasis on choline, inositol, and PABA. Choline is plentiful in eggs, wheat germ, legumes (beans, split peas, and lentils), oatmeal and brown rice. Lecithin, wheat germ, rice bran, whole wheat, and legumes are excellent sources of inositol. PABA is found in mushrooms, cabbage, sunflower seeds, wheat germ, oats, spinach, and eggs.

Make sure that your diet contains ample essential fatty acids. Eat fish two or three times a week (not deep-fried). If your hair is dry and brittle, you may improve its texture by supplementing your diet with primrose oil or pure cold or pressed flaxseed oil (buy it only in refrigerated opaque bottles)

B-complex vitamins are essential for health and growth of hair.

Vitamin C helps improve circulation to the scalp.
